TECHNOLOGY PLANNING

Technology planning for school districts should be done primarily as a good business practice for the thousands, and in some cases, millions spent on technology infrastructure for schools. In addition, school districts wishing to stay eligible for programs such as the federal e-rate telecommunications discount program and state telecommunications/internet access equity aid need to be developing technology plans for July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2015.

The Minnesota Department of Education is providing many resources for technology planning through The Technology Planning Toolkit at http://www.education.state.mn.us/MDE/Learning_Support/School_Technology/index.html.

In addition, the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a technology leadership organization based in Washington, D.C., provides many excellent resources for chief technology officers in schools relating to technology planning and implementation. Visit http://www.cosn.org for more information.

For school districts in northwestern Minnesota, the following recommendations have been sent out to all NW-LINKS school districts members regarding technology planning for E-rate and telecommunications aid eligibility.
